- Charles did not just "grow" into a great
- high school player; he worked hard at
- improving his skills. Charles didnΓÇÖt get
- much court time in his first varsity
- season. Because of his weight (220
- pounds on a 5' 10" body), he was much
- slower than the guards on other teams.
- To make up for his size, Charles
- practiced rebounding, many nights, all
- by himself. He made his legs stronger
- by jumping over a fence that
- surrounded his house. The fence was
- five feet high. Today, CharlesΓÇÖs great
- leaping ability and quickness are two
- important parts of his game.
